Guidelines for Reviews
- Character
- Reviews of books, online publications, websites,
learning materials, hardware and software, conferences
and other events, or any other item deemed worthy
of review
- Maximum length
- Reviews are moderated by the editors.
- Selection
- 2,000 words. This includes all text.
- Page 0
- The first page, which should be numbered
0, should contain the following information,
which should not be included in other pages:

- Indication that the submission is a
review
- Name and nature of product reviewed
- Names and affiliations of all authors
- Name and address for correspondence

For book reviews, the following information
should also be provided:
- Author/s or Editor/s of Work
- Title of Work (Complete)
- Publisher; Place (full address and web
site if available)
- Date of Publication
- ISBN
- For other products, provide this information:

- Nature of product
- Author(s) if known
- Producer; Place (full address and web
site if available)
- Date of Publication
- Items included in the product
- Structure
- The review should contain the following:
-
- Nature and contents of the book/product
- Discussion of book/product
- Conclusions, summing up judgement of the
book/product
- Headings
-
- Headings are not obligatory for reviews,
and may be omitted
- Where used, headings should make the structure
of the review clear, and should indicate the
content of the sections into which it is divided
- Headings should be numbered 1, 2, 3, etc.
Further levels of heading are not accepted
- Headings should be in Times New Roman, 12
point bold
- There should be two blank lines before and
one blank line after each heading, except when
two headings are consecutive, when there should
be one blank line between them.
- References
- References should not normally be given in reviews.
Where it is felt a reference is necessary, the conventions
for citation and reference for papers submitted
to JeLit should be adopted.
- Footnotes
- Footnotes should not be used in reviews.
- Acknowledgements
- Acknowledgements should be listed at the end
of the review, under the heading "Acknowledgements".
- Appendices
- Appendices should not be included in reviews.
- Font

- All page 0 text should be in Times New Roman,
12 point normal
- Headings should be in 12 point bold, all
other text should be in 12 point normal
- Text in figures should be in Arial 10 point
- Captions to figures should be in Arial 10
point
- Depart from this only when occasion demands,
e.g. reproduction of a text whose formatting
is relevant to the review.
- Spacing
- All submissions should be single spaced.
- Paragraphs
- Paragraphs should not be indented. Leave one
blank line between each paragraph.
- Emphasis
- Use italics to indicate emphasis. Do not underline
text.
- Tables

- Tables should be included in the text at appropriate
places and centred horizontally
- A caption of up to 8 words should be placed
under each table
- Tables should be numbered sequentially and
must be referred to in the text as Table 1,
Table 2, etc
- Display tables as follows:

- Figures
-
- Figures should be included in the text at
appropriate places and centred horizontally
- A caption of up to 8 words should be placed
under each figure
- Figures should be numbered sequentially and
must be referred to in the text as Figure 1,
Figure 2, etc
- Figures must have a maximum width of 500
pixels. Most graphics programmes will show the
width of an image in pixels. The editors reserve
the right to crop any image wider than 500 pixels
- As well as including them in the text, attach
separate copies of all figures as individual
files in GIF or JPEG format.
- Address for correspondence
- The address for correspondence supplied in the
email which accompanied the submission will be taken
as the address for correspondence to be appended
to the published item. If a different address for
correspondence is required for the published item,
this must be specified in the email
